Reconstruction phase of Aruba has begun

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes has officially informed the President of Parliament, mr. Ady Thijsen about the agreement that was signed last Friday in The Netherlands.

Last week during the Kingdom Council of Ministers, the content proposal of the consensus Kingdom Act on the Caribbean Body for Reform and Development (COHO) has been approved. Aruba will receive 209 million florins this week at a 0% interest rate and start paying back in 2022. This third tranche is from July 1st until December 31st, 2020.

The Kingdom Laws agreed upon are: (1) financial supervision/ Rijkswet Aruba Financieel Toezicht (RAFT) and (2) Caribbean Body for Reform and Development (COHO).

Must comply with the conditions of the Kingdom Laws for subsequent tranches of liquidity support.

“After some intense and challenging months for the Government of Aruba since the start of COVID worldwide, last Friday, the Government of Aruba signed the agreement with The Netherlands for the third tranche of liquidity support. We have now entered a phase of financial stability and reconstruction of Aruba. The Netherlands will help reactivate our economy and more protection for our borders,” Prime Minister said.
