Politician guilty of molesting a 15-year-old boy and is sentenced to 24 months in prison

Today on World Children’s Day, Court found Jeffery Dimitri di Carlo guilty of molesting a 15-year-old boy.

In this case, the prosecutor proposed 24 months in prison, of which 2 are conditional and 3 years probation. The accused, who is in KIA, heard the verdict through a video call. He has 2 weeks to appeal the decision.

Lisette Gomes explained that this case was different because the accused is a psychologist, a professional who must know better. “Many would say that the sentence is not much, but we must not forget that here in Aruba, it is challenging to prove molestation. The Judge found enough proof in this case that the accused touched the boy’s private parts and sentenced him to two years,” the activist explained.

Looking back to the 10 years working in this field, Gomes said she is happy with the decision. Before, many other suspects let go because this delict is hard to prove.

She knows of 2 other cases where the accused name has been mentioned, but unfortunately, the parents do not want to file a criminal complaint because of shame. She tried to convince them, but without luck.

Gomes denied that di Carlo worked with her foundation. However, when he came to Aruba and started his consulting company, their offices were in the same building.
