The Netherlands: First vaccination on January 8 2021

There is a possibility that the first round of vaccination will begin on January 8, 2021, if the vaccine is approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). This is what Minister of Health de Jonge said in a letter to the House of Representatives.

The invitations will be sent on January 4th. The first group will be employees of nursing homes, care for the disabled, district nurses, and those of the Social Support Act.

They must make an appointment by phone, and later on, it will happen digitally.

The GGD will vaccinate at three locations in the country by Monday, 11 January at the latest. Vaccinations will take place at 25 central locations from Monday 18 January.

The exact date depends if EMA will give its approval to go on the market. The approval is planned to take place next weekend. According to the minister, the manufacturer Pfizer can only deliver a small number of vaccines, about half a million vaccines.

Two Injections

The BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine consists of two doses, which will be given 3 weeks apart. Vaccination will take place 7 days a week with long opening hours.

Minister Hugo de Jonge: “In consultation with the GGD and RIVM, it was decided to plan carefully, safely, and responsibly. Ultimately, the highest possible vaccination coverage is our goal. We can only achieve this if people have confidence in the vaccine and the vaccination process.”
