First US tourist dies of Covid-19 in Aruba

Last Tuesday, the hospital was confronted with the first fatality of a tourist infected with Covid-19. He has been hospitalized for a while now, fighting for his life. Apart from Covid-19, he had other complications as well, like obesity. He never really recovered, and his condition deteriorated.

The tourist, a man from the US but born in Russia and was 73 years old. He came to Aruba to spend a few days without knowing he was infected with Covid-19. He arrived with the virus but got ill very quickly after noticing the first symptoms, and it did not take long before he was hospitalized. He got very ill and was a few days in Intensive Care.

After ten months, this is Aruba’s first Covid-19 related death, who is a tourist. There were different cases where tourists who were infected with the virus could fly back home to receive more advanced treatment and others who recovered entirely and went back home without any symptoms and without the virus. We could still remember the first case on March 13th, a tourist who flew back home in an Air Ambulance.

Sources have reassured us that this tourist, like all others who come to Aruba, was insured, and his insurance will pay all hospital bills and send him home to be buried. Nowadays, before boarding a flight to Aruba, you must download an app on your phone to upload your negative PCR test or pay $75 to take the test at the airport upon arrival in Aruba. Besides that, tourists must purchase a Covid-Insurance to cover the costs if you get infected and need medical treatment, hospitalization, etc.

Meanwhile, all preparations are being done to send the tourist’s body back to his home—our sincere condolences to the family during these difficult times.

It’s good to mention that there are more tourists hospitalized due to Covid-19. Luckily, most of them are recovering and would be able to leave the hospital soon and go back to their country. Most of the time, these tourists arrive in Aruba without knowing that they are infected and start getting symptoms a few days later.
