Minister Andin Bikker updated law of admission and expulsion

Recently, the Parliament of Aruba, with 12 votes in favor, approved changes in the law proposed by Minister mr. Andin Bikker, to adapt the laws of admission and expulsion, known as the ‘Landsverordening Toelating en Uitzetting (LTU). The changes are very technical and mostly internal, bound to the procedures of granting residence permits on our island.

The LTU law for our island has been applied since 1986 when Aruba became an autonomous country in the Dutch Kingdom. As the years have passed, the law has been adapted on different occasions, depending on new circumstances our country was facing, regarding socioeconomic and labor developments. Nevertheless, it was last adjusted in December 2018.

Now, three years later, it was time to make changes again. The law that was passed this week has technical changes. The policy was anchored for families of those who come to Aruba to provide technical support from the Netherlands and must be based here because of their job, for example, personnel for the Governor’s Cabinet, Representation of the Netherlands in Aruba (VNO), Recherche Samenwerkingsteam, the Public Prosecutors Office and Common Court of Caribbean Netherlands.

The changes have now been formalized in official law. The Parliament of Aruba, in its totality, supported the changes proposed by Minister Andin Bikker.
