Tomorrow Aruba celebrates the 10th edition of Earth Hour

Saturday 27th of March, families, individuals, businesses and cities around the world will participate in an Earth Hour by turning off all lights for an hour or more in an attempt to contribute to the goal of creating a sustainable world.

Earth Hour is a global environmental movement that started in Sydney, Australia in 2007. In 2008, Earth Hour received global recognition and since then Aruba is also known to actively participate to show that we stand together and support this event. Aruba even has a commission, Earth Hour Aruba Community Group (E.H.A.C.G.) that helps bring awareness to the importance of energy sustainability.

Like every year, we ask Aruba to unite for this good cause and to show the world that we too wish to participate in this by turning off all lights and non-essential electric appliances on Saturday starting 8:30 pm till 9:30 pm or longer.

More than 160 countries are asked to turn off the lights for an hour or longer. Even Aruba Tourism Authority will be participating to this tremendous environmental event by turning off non-essential lights inside the building, which would usually remain on all night. A.T.A. is supporting the sustainable initiative for our future generations and a durable Aruba.

This awareness is something that everyone can participate in, and not only during Earth Hour but daily. For example, by not turning on the lights unless it is completely necessary, removing all wires from their plugs after your devices have finished charging, and not leaving the air-conditioning on unnecessarily.

This is a call to take responsibility for our environment by turning off the lights for an hour or more. Participate in the action while setting a good example for others and celebrate your impact.
