72 new cases registered today

According to Aruba’s Public Health Department (DVG), 54 people have recuperated. There are 72 new cases of COVID-19, of which 9 are non-residents. The total number of tests performed at the various locations, namely the hospital lab, private labs, and the airport test is 879. The positivity rate among residents is 26%. As of today, there are 677 active cases and the number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 82.

The hospital has informed us that of the 40 people they’re treating, 13 are in the Intensive Care and 27 are in the general internal COVID-19 unit.

The situation remains dire because the positivity rate is so high. The average of daily new cases has raised from an average of 50 to an average of 60. The number of new cases compared to those who have recuperated differs by 20. Authorities state that there is a lot of contagion occurring in groups of people below the age of 60 and children going to school. This is the reason why the government has decided to close schools for an extra week by extending the Easter holiday.
