Aruba will vote on the 25th of June

The interim governor and the prime minister, Evelyn Wever-Croes met to sign the official decree to dissolve Aruba’s parliament and establish a date for the new 2021 election.

Election day will take place on the 25th of June, 2021. Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes went on to say that the list of official candidates will be established on the 7th of May. This election period will be shorter than usual and new rules will need to be applied due to the unique circumstances.

It should also be mentioned, in accordance with the established rules to prevent any further spreading of the virus, there will be no political activities permitted until after April 11th, 2021. After this date, the rules will be reevaluated together with the police, the Crisis Team and the political parties.

At that point in time, it will need to be determined whether or not political events will take place and if so, which types should be organized, based on the number of people and the prevention of large gatherings. All of these are the reason for holding the elections in June, which means that the next parliament will be determined by the 8th of July.
