STA: two days of maternity leave is not enough for fathers

The STA syndicate held a meeting regarding maternity leave for males. The women have the right to this, but men barely even get two days.

The STA syndicate is in agreement that men should get six months of maternity leave. STA’s president, Diego de Cuba, indicated that two days is nowhere near enough time to be of any help right after the child has just been born. He believes that there should be changes made to this period in order to provide the men with more time in order to help their partner/spouse.

The first weeks and months after giving birth are difficult. This is one of the many statements that were brought forward during the meeting and added to the agreement to change this law. Two days hardly suffice for anything, because the first day is the date of the birth and the second day is usually spent signing the child up at Censo. Then the father has to go back to work while the mother stays home with the baby. Even though there is sometimes family that will help, it would be better for the partner to be present during the first few weeks.
