Seven dead in one week: 5 in Colombia and 2 in Aruba

According to today’s report, 32 people have recovered from COVID-19 and there were a total of 67 new cases registered. Of these new cases, 4 are tourists and 63 are residents. This number represents a 22% positivity rate amongst our residents. 

The total number of active COVID-19 cases is now 590 and the number of COVID-related deaths is 146, with the passing of seven residents. Of these seven deaths, five were in Colombia while the other two died in Aruba. Of the two that passed away in Aruba, one was in the hospital, and the other person was confirmed to have had COVID-19 after their passing. Our sincerest condolences go out to the families of the victims. The data indicates a continuous increase in new cases of a weekly averaging to 60 new cases per day and an average daily positivity rate of 25%. 

The hospital has informed us that there are currently 57 people admitted, of which 15 are in the ICU here on Aruba while the other 16 ICU patients are in Colombia. Furthermore, 42 patients are on the general floor on the island.

Since the DELTA variant arrived in Aruba in July, 39 patients have unfortunately lost their lives to COVID-19. Of those who lost their lives due to COVID-19, 6 were vaccinated while the remaining 33 victims were not.
