Minister Ursell Arends launches ‘Trash to Cash’

Minister Ursell Arends has announced the ‘Trash 2 Cash Waste Management Solutions’ during a press conference on 22.2.22, a date which will be marked in history as the day we make the promise to our future generations to do all we can to have our own circular economy in ten years.

On behalf of the government, it is important to stimulate more businesses to explore the value of recycled materials so that they can also participate in the big picture solution for Aruba’s waste management. Before enforcing legislation, a solid foundation must first be built within the community where the infrastructure – different organizations – will be able to process all types of waste.

During the coming weeks, individuals or organizations will be able to ‘pitch’ their ideas on how to reduce or change the destiny of our waste by uploading a short video on the website www.trashtocasharuba.org

Next month, on the 22nd of March, the finalists who have uploaded their ideas for the ‘Trash to Cash’ Waste Management Solutions will be announced during a forum. During the forum, participants will receive the opportunity to pitch their ideas on paper in their entirety.

This way, Minister Ursell Arends hopes that we, together with those who have an idea on how to process or work with processed materials, can start on these activities as soon as possible.

Minister Arends also explained that once a partner in the community has been found to start the processing, the next step in the new waste disposal management solution will be taken: legislation in the form of a ‘Waste Policy’ which will reinforce all efforts in the management of waste disposal.
