Government evaluating possibility of decreasing excise duty on gasoline

Recently, the international petroleum market has seen an increase in petroleum prices which affects the prices of gasoline and diesel in Aruba. Besides the significant effects on prices due to current situations such as supply chain issues combined with the rise in energy costs, the Russian invasion of Ukraine will result in increased prices for petroleum products, transport, and other imported products. The price increase in the petroleum sector will translate into an increase in local petroleum products.

“We are aware of the international developments that impact gasoline and diesel prices as we are 100% dependent on international gasoline and diesel”, according to Minister Wever’s comments. “For these reasons we are working on a policy that will minimize the impact on consumers in the short term.”

Minister Wever mentioned that they are evaluating the import of cheaper gasoline and are revising the structure of gas and diesel prices which can have a positive impact on the prices, without jeopardizing the Government of Aruba’s income.
