Minister President: Low level in Parliament crosses borders

One and all can remember the video of the treatment of the 2022 budget that circulated on social media. In the video, some controversial remarks and exchanges between members of parliament could be seen and made many question whether or not the level of dialogue was professional. This provoked the reaction of the Aruban community with many stating that this level was ‘low’ as they were discussing and dealing with a highly important topic and yet jokes and name calling took away the seriousity of it.

In a press conference this morning, our Minister President, Evelyn Wever-Croes, mentioned that even in Curacao people were asking questions on the topic. Moreover, she explained that they were in the sixth day of debating 12 hours a day, thus 72 hours of debate and the video solely reflected what had occurred on the last day of the annual budget meeting. She mentioned that previous debates and meetings held by members of parliament on the topic of the annual budget have seen much lower levels but that she did find it unfortunate that it had gone too far at times.
