Parkietenbos workers ask Minister Ursell Arends stay true to his word

Thursday morning a group of roughly 20 Parkietenbos workers called 24ora.com to express their disappointment & worries to the attention of the Minister of Environment, Ursell Arends. The reason they took this measure is because they feel they aren’t being heard, and that the minister is not staying true to his word in which he said he would come to the Landfill to speak with them concerning future plans regarding the landfill and their jobs. This is after Minister Arends made it known that the dump would be closing in December.

Gregorio Rasmijn, shop steward for the group, said that “the situation is very worrisome, as workers do not know what is going to happen to the Parkietenbos landfill by December. They have points that they wish to bring forward to the minister and they wish to demand to know what is going to happen.

This is after many attempts at contacting the minister in vain. Rasmijn explained that they sent two letters to the minister already, but that he has yet to respond.

There are currently 20 people working in the dump, and, according to Rasmijn, things are operating as they usually do. What they desire is for minister Arends to stay true to his word.

Edmundo Marlin, Secretary for SEPPA, who represents the workers stated that in April they had their last encounter with Minister Arends during which he introduced the new conjoined Serlimar directive. from there, SEPPA took advantage of the moment to remind the minister on his agreement to speak to the workers in relation to the dump’s closure in December.
