The day after: Aftermath of the fire at Daltra

yesterday at around 12:17 pm, the first calls started coming in about the fire on the Daltra Antilles property, located at Parkietenbos # 30 in the area of Barcadera.

For the next 13 hours, the fire department spent battling the flames in order to prevent it from spreading to the neighboring buildings. Various government departments united in order to make this possible. Because the fire department faced a lot of challenges with their broken trucks and lack of equipment, other companies such as APEX, ATCO Aruba, Ecotech, and more came together to prevent a disaster. Today at around 1:30 am, the firefighters were able to call it quits.

This morning, some of the additional pumps were used once more to administer water to what remains at the scene in order to prevent another fire from igniting. Many vehicles and pieces of metal are left sewing in the aftermath of the fire, leaving the terrain looking moe like a battlefield.

The issue happened already, now it is up to the government as well as Daltra Antilles to ensure that it will not happen again. Not only by following strict rules more precisely but also by providing the fire department with more and better equipment to be able to tackle such an issue when needed.

The fire department had all of its workers out on the scene yesterday and they have to seriously revise which one of their vehicles is able to function properly and which ones need to be updated, as various of them broke in action yesterday as well. One thing is clear, our fire department needs new equipment. We hope Aruba is spared from another big fire because we are clearly not able to combat it!
