During the first day of trial, Benny Sevinger was asked solely about correlation between the donations received and the property he had awarded. This was exactly what the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PO) had discovered during their investigation. The former Minister of Infrastructure during the tenure of the Mike Eman I & II cabinet, ensured the court that he treated everyone equally. “I did not choose favorites.”
Many questions were asked regarding the awarding of property to Curt Harms and Pieter Susebeek who were known associates and good friends of Sevinger. The PO also mentioned that the two properties were considered ‘prime locations.’ This brought a smile to Sevinger’s face. He said that “I do not consider the properties prime locations.” The properties are located right next to the Bubali Purification Plant. “It smells terrible there. I doubt you could construct anything luxurious there.”
He went on to state “I signed for a lot of proporties for many people and companies indiscriminately. I made sure everyone had equal opportunity with me.” He said he even awarded land to former Prime Minister Nelson Oduber without any issues as well as for his son. He also mentioned signing for people from the political party POR as well as for RED, and more.
