Exercise unit to practice with Caribbean military in Aruba

During the period from the 12th until the 22nd, the 40th rotation of the ‘Compagnie in the West (CidW)’ which are temporarily stationed in the Dutch Caribbean Region as part of the Naval Command Forces, will be completing various exercises in Aruba. During these exercises the group will be visiting various parts of the island especially in the Eastern sections.

The goal of these exercises are to learn about the country, its geography, and the public as well as the tactical traningins and training under different climates. The facilities of the Marine Barracks as well as the enormous natural environment are especially convenient.

Part of the exercise is to calibrate and measure an area or object in a secretive manner and to keep this under observation, develop personal abilities and improve physical strength. As the CARMIL is executing its own exercises simultaneously, the two will be cooperating and exchanging knowledge. This will improve the overall cooperation between the two active units in the Caribbean region.

Cid is a battalion force that changes training exercise methods every four months. They come from the central command operations of the respective country and form part of one of four brigades of the Royal Dutch Exercise Unit. The battalion supports the different othe remembers such as the medical and engineering units. The team amplifies the already diverse and specialized team currently present in the Caribbean. The unit is on standby for any medical or assistance requested by local governments. When the unit returns, they will do so via aerial means as the vessel they offer support to, the Zr. Ms. Pelikaan, is currently dispatched at other sites in the Caribbean region for hurricane preparedness exercises.
