Since the attack on cruise ship visitor Sarkis Gitani, authorities have worked hard to arrest those responsible for the crime. This week, four people were arrested of which three are accused of committing the attack and the fourth, the mother of one of the suspects. Police are still looking for a fourth suspect.
Nathalie Racine, wife of Gitani, followed the investigation up close. She informed 24ora that they were relieved with the arrest of the suspects but are still concerned that the fourth person is on the loose. The suspects seem to be related in one way or another.
Racine mentioned how her husband was attacked in the parking lot by the suspects who covered their faces with their t-shirts. She says her husband can more easily recognize them by their voices. Moreover, she mentioned that her husband will be unable to speak for the next 8-12 months due to injuries sustained in the attack. He will also not be able to eat any solids. Racine reiterated that her husband could potentially identify the attackers by their voice.
Recovery Process
With regards to his recovery, Sarkis is receiving medication and is in immense pain. He explained that all the bones in his face are fractures from his eyes down. It is not known whether he had metal implants but his entire body was covered in bruises for which he receives morphine every four hours.
They are not sure whether the damage will be permanent but are reliving the nightmare daily. “We don’t know what’s next. We don’t know how much longer he will be out of work. I have to take care of him. Our kids are traumatized by the attack and all the blood. We returned to the ship where we did not receive help,” Racine commented.
