On the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF) website, you can see all the maintenance projects that are currently planned for the public and tourist areas. There are ten areas in total and with the start of the new year, a shocking amount of trash has been accumulating outside.
The Minister of Health and Tourism, Dangui Oduber, explained that the TPEF teams that are supposed to keep the coastline are clean are overwhelmed by the amount of trash. It is likely due to the fact that we are in high season right now and the number of visitors to our island has increased. All of this could be the cause the trash accumulating around the island.
EXPANSION
The minister went on to say that the plan was always to expand the teams, as they desire a higher level of cleanliness than what it currently is. The goal is to present the best possible experience to the tourists, which entails that it should be clean. It goes without saying that this will not only benefit visitors, but the residents as well. The reason these steps are not being made is due to a shortage on funds. At the moment, the quantity cannot be expanded like the government desires.
