Vessel capsized: Coast Guard rescues two Venezuelan castaways at sea

On Monday afternoon, the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard received a notification that a tanker ship had seen a castaway at sea. This was around 20 miles from Aruba. The Coast Guard’s Maritime Operations Center immediately directed the Coast Guard helicopter to the position at sea to rescue two people.

Upon arrival, two male castaways were found clinging to their capsized boat. The helicopter rescued both men from the water and brought them to land. They were then taken to the hospital in Aruba for treatment.

The boat was from Venezuela and the two men were the only crew on board. The boat capsized in the morning and with the assistance of the Coast Guard, the rescues were made possible after the alert from the tanker ship. After they are treated, both Venezuelan fishermen will be able to return to their country, Venezuela. Family members were also notified that their loved ones are well in Aruba and that the Coast Guard rescued them 20 miles from Aruba.
