Ata: January 2023 yielded better results than January 2022 and January 2019!

During the month of January 2023, Aruba received a total of 98,942 “stay-over” visitors. When comparing the month of January 2023 with January 2019 – which is considered to be the last normal month for tourism before the pandemic, we can see that tourism has recuperated by 105%. 

When comparing January 2023 to January 2022, a 66% increase can be regarded. 

MARKET AND ACCOMMODATION CATEGORIES

In January of 2023, 82.8% of the total “stayover” visitors to Aruba came from North America, 6.6% of visitors came from Europe, 8.4% of visitors came from Latin America, and the remaining 2.1% came from other parts of the world. 

When we look at the accommodation categories in January of 2023, 36.1% of visitors stayed in High-rise hotels, 8.1% stayed in Low-rise hotels, 26.1% stayed in Timeshares and 29.8% stayed in other types of accommodations, also known as vacation rentals.

It is important to mention that A.T.A. has access to platforms that keep track of the number of homes, apartments, and villas used as vacation rentals as well as the average price per night, the occupation rates, and the calculation used to see how much revenue they generate. 

When comparing January 2023 with January 2022, you can see that the average price for these types of accommodations has increased by 15%. The average price went from $236 per night to $271. When comparing January 2023 with January 2019, you can see that the average price for one of these accommodations has increased by a total of 43%. The average price per night was $189 per night back in 2019. 

When comparing January 2023 with January 2022, you can see that the average occupation increased by 7%, going from an average of 61% in 2022 to an average of 68% in 2023. When comparing January 2023 with January 2019, you can see that the average occupation increased by 3%, going from 65% to 68%. 

When it comes to revenue, when comparing January 2023 to 2022, you can see that this category increased by 42%. When comparing 2023 to January 2019, you can see a 195% increase.

For 2023 we will continue to use these 4 indicators to measure tourism. Compared to 2019, in 2023, we expect a 105% recuperation in visitors, generated revenue is predicted to recuperate by 117%, and revenue per hotel room, according to AHATA’s numbers will recuperate by 100%. Lastly, cruise visitors are expected to recuperate anywhere between 90 to 100%.
