Traffic accident in Miami leaves Chauncey Koolman partially disabled: he has hope that one day he will walk again

Chauncey Koolman is an Aruban man who moved to Miami, where he works and engages in his favorite sport, beach tennis. One evening on his way home, he became involved in an accident and as a result, he is now partially disabled.

Chauncey Koolman, an athlete, expressed that he was a very ambitious person before the accident. He was always looking for a way to get ahead, and beach tennis was always his passion. He went to the USA to become a coach or organizer, trying to make a name for himself in beach tennis.

But Miami is bigger, and if a person wants to live alone, they have to find a way to do so. Koolman became an All State salesperson and tried to live a more independent life.

Many people know Chauncey in the world of beach tennis. And in Miami, he also practiced the sport. He retained the ‘vibe’ of Aruba by going to the beach, socializing, enjoying friendships, and indulging in the sport.

But in October, he became involved in a severe accident while driving on the roads of Miami. Chauncey explained that one Sunday, he went out with a friend. He dropped the friend off and then proceeded to go home.  He chose to put his vehicle on lane control and cruise control. However, the heavy rain caused the vehicle to swerve and crash.

According to Koolman, the accident was unavoidable. The roads were wet, which caused him to spin out of control and for the airbags to deploy. He believes that the airbags hit him in the spine.

Chauncey was conscious the entire time and says that he remembers two people “two angels”, a man and a woman, who stopped and pulled him out of the car. They spoke with him until the ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital.

Treatment

He needed surgery. Here, the doctor told him that everything went well with the surgery. However, when he stood up, he realized that he could not feel anything below the waist, and he was only able to partially move his hands.

On Tuesday, he had an appointment with the doctor who operated on him. The doctor is hopeful, which is crucial in such a situation.

Life Changed

Now that he is in a wheelchair, everything has changed for him. It’s a sensitive topic for Chauncey, who expressed that he cannot live alone in this situation. His friend, Carlos Marquez, who is a beach tennis coach in Miami, is like his guardian angel. He helps Chauncey whenever he needs it. He is attending his physical therapy sessions and hopes that one day, he can be back on his feet and have his independent life back.
