The process has begun to transform the former Public Prosecutor’s Office building into student apartments

On Tuesday, February 28, the Government of Aruba officially initiated the process to convert the former Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) building in Oranjestad into a student apartment complex. This is part of various initiatives by the Government of Aruba to revitalize the center of Oranjestad.

As part of Minister Mr. Geoffrey Wever’s vision, the goal is to have more people living in the center of Oranjestad and to renovate abandoned buildings, especially for student accommodation.

Together with Prime Minister, Mr. Evelyn Wever-Croes, who is also responsible for the Department of Infrastructure and Planning (DIP), managing the properties of the Country of Aruba, discussions were held with FCCA, which expressed interest in acquiring this property and converting it into a student apartment complex.

To comply with legal regulations applicable to the Government of Aruba, other interested parties must also be given an opportunity to object to this decision before entering into a definitive agreement with FCCA. For this reason, a publication of the intention of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy took place on February 27th.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize the center of Oranjestad. The Government of Aruba is committed to revitalizing the heart of the capital and transforming vacant spaces into opportunities for economic development. If students live in the center of Oranjestad, they can easily walk to the University of Aruba, bringing a new dynamic to the center of Oranjestad.

The collaboration between the government and the private sector is highlighted as an example of how urban planning and sustainable development can work together for the benefit of the community. It is fundamental to the success of this project, to combine resources and expertise to achieve a common goal.
