National Library: Three authors will visit nursing homes for ‘storytelling’

A well-motivated and enthusiastic team under the coordination of librarian Yosmar Maduro-Sneek will visit different nursing homes on our island this month and in May and June 2024. The library presents three well-known individuals to tell stories. They are Betty Goeloe (former librarian), Gerry Franca (author), and Clifford Rosa (coordinator of the Rancho Aruba Foundation). Sonrisa Tropical, Hélène Arends, and Grupo Zjilea will present the musical presentation.

Gerry Franca is the author of children’s books, ‘Carlito Goes on an Adventure’, ‘The Story of Carlito and the Blanket’, ‘Penchi: the little mouse with his squeaky voice.’ Gerry Franca and Clifford Rosa will share the history of Oranjestad’s 200 years, which will be celebrated in August 2024. Betty Goeloe worked at the National Library of Aruba for many years, among others in the Catalog Department and Arubiana. As part of ’75 Years of Library Work in Aruba’, Betty Goeloe is invited to tell the history of the library in Aruba.

Every year, the library organizes its project ‘Storytelling at Nursing Homes’. For three months, 12 visits are made to a nursing home, together with three local writers, to delight the audience with beautiful and unique stories.

After the first part, which is the author’s presentation, the library continues with Sonrisa Tropical, which will delight our elderly with Aruban music. Together with the media team, they present a beautiful morning for our elderly citizens.

This is the 15th year presenting the program to our elderly living in different Nursing Homes such as Paviljoen San Pedro, Huize Maris Stella Savaneta, SABA San Nicolas, and Cas Marie Savaneta, among others. The presentations are documented through filming and photography. The service club ‘International Club of Quota Aruba’ provides financial support for the project. Tuesday morning, June 25th, marks the final presentation for 2024, and the closure will be celebrated with all three participants.
