Hospital director highlights the dangers of vaping

In a time when it’s important to be ‘cool’ and belong to a group, it’s essential to speak honestly about topics that have a significant impact on our health and well-being. One of these topics is the use of electronic cigarettes, also known as vaping. Many young people and adults have misconceptions about the risks of vaping, which can lead to serious long-term health problems.

The director of Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital, Jacco Vroegop, expressed pride in the efforts of the lung specialist, Caroline Becker, who recently spoke to a class of second-year students at De Schakel College to inform them about the dangers of vaping.

There’s a misconception that vaping is a harmless alternative to traditional smoking. On the contrary, vaping can lead to serious health problems, such as irritation and damage to the airways, heart palpitations, and a higher risk of cancer.

One of the most concerning aspects of vaping is that many e-cigarettes contain more nicotine than a pack of cigarettes, which intensifies addiction and can cause harm to the development of the human body, specifically in young people.

Nicotine can cause permanent damage to the development of the human body and increase the risk of various mental health problems.

Caroline Becker took an important step by speaking to a group of young people at De Schakel College and giving them an informative talk about vaping. During this session, not only were the factors and risks of vaping shared, but also the myths surrounding vaping.

It was an eye-opener for young people to hear about the impact vaping can have on their health and future.

Schools like De Schakel College need to keep their doors open to informational initiatives like this one, to better inform young people about the risks of vaping. Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital continues to provide full support and contribution to promoting awareness and stopping the use of electronic cigarettes among young people.

Thanks also to Dr. Caroline Becker and De Schakel College for their efforts and commitment to this important initiative. Together, they emphasize a conscious and healthier future for our young people.
