Vote ends in a tie: same-sex marriage law does not pass

Yesterday, the Parliament of Aruba spent nearly the entire day discussing the same-sex marriage law. After 10:00 pm, the result came in, ending in a draw at 10-10, with one parliamentarian, Shailiny Tromp-Lee, not being present.

The parliamentarians who voted for the same-sex marriage law are: Miguel Mansur of ACCION21, Misha Raymond of RAIZ, Raymond Kamperveen of RAIZ, Marisol of MAS, Aquannette Gunn of MAS, Gerlien Croes independent parliamentarian, Mervin Wyatt-Ras of AVP, Mike de Meza of AVP, Benny Sevinger of AVP, and Setty Christiaans-Yarzagaray of MEP.

Those who voted against the law are Arthur Dowers of AVP, Mike Eman of AVP, Alvin Molina, Hendrik Tevreden, Darlaine Guedez-Erasmus, Marco Berlis, Ricky Hoek, Edgard Vrolijk, and Arthur Vallejo, all of MEP. While Shailiny Tromp-Lee of MEP chose not to be present.

Each parliamentarian put forth their reasons for either agreeing with or opposing the same-sex marriage law. Given the tied voting result, the President of Parliament indicated that they would need to hold another meeting to revote.
