A.T.A.: Couples spend an average of $27,000 on weddings in Aruba

Couples getting married in Aruba spend an average of $27,000 on their weddings, while wedding guests spend approximately $4,000 each, according to a new study commissioned by the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.).

The study, titled “Saying ‘I Do’ to the Business of Aruba Weddings,” examines Aruba’s wedding and honeymoon market, the preferences of couples choosing the island for their celebrations, and the economic opportunities this growing tourism segment presents.

The findings highlight several factors that make Aruba an attractive destination for weddings, including its romantic atmosphere, unique venues, safety, favorable weather, and established wedding industry. The island also benefits from experienced hotels and wedding professionals who offer a wide range of services.

Beyond wedding ceremonies, the study found that honeymoon travelers spend an average of $10,500 during their visits, further demonstrating the economic potential of this tourism market.

Destination weddings are also evolving, with couples increasingly organizing celebrations and activities over several days rather than limiting their events to a single ceremony. This trend creates additional opportunities for local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, tour operators, transportation providers, and other service providers.

Sustainability is another important factor influencing couples’ decisions. According to the research, couples increasingly value wedding experiences that support local communities, protect the environment, and respect the destination’s culture.

The study also found that couples with higher purchasing power are willing to spend between 30% and 50% more on sustainable wedding options, provided these initiatives are credible and deliver measurable benefits.

For Aruba, these findings point to opportunities to expand the wedding and honeymoon market while ensuring that local businesses and communities benefit from the industry’s growth.

A.T.A. believes that by focusing on quality, sustainability, and the island’s unique appeal, Aruba can further strengthen its position as a destination for weddings and honeymoons.
