A majority of participants in an online poll conducted by 24ora.com support a possible ban on the sale and private use of consumer fireworks in Aruba.
The poll was launched after the Dutch government announced a new law prohibiting the sale of consumer fireworks to the public and banning private individuals from setting off fireworks starting August 1, 2026. Professional fireworks displays will remain allowed but will require prior approval from the government.
The decision in the Netherlands follows growing concerns over fireworks-related accidents, the misuse of fireworks against emergency responders, and the impact of fireworks on animals and the environment.
Following the announcement, 24ora.com conducted a poll on its Facebook page to measure whether people in Aruba would support adopting similar regulations or prefer to maintain the island’s tradition of privately setting off fireworks.
A total of 1,400 followers participated in the poll. Of those, 936 respondents voted in favor of Aruba adopting the Dutch approach by banning the sale and private use of consumer fireworks and allowing only professional fireworks shows. Another 456 participants voted to maintain the current situation and preserve Aruba’s fireworks traditions.
The results show that more than twice as many respondents support stricter fireworks regulations than those who prefer keeping the current rules. While the poll does not represent an official public opinion survey, the results indicate that there is significant interest in the topic and may encourage the government to evaluate the future of fireworks regulations in Aruba.
