A Committee for Child Sexual Abuse has officially been inaugurated

This afternoon took place the official introduction of the Committee for Child Sexual Abuse. Lisette Gomes is the president of this committee, which falls directly under Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes.

In December 2019, they sat with the Prime Minister to discuss child sexual abuse, which preoccupies the community. They came up with the idea to establish this committee to do some research, and at the end of this will advise the Government accordingly.

The committee has been meeting up with stakeholders that are important for this topic. They then decided to start national research. They will sit down with about 150 people, parents, educators, doctors, psychologists, amongst others.

On behalf of the justice system, they will sit with JZP, the Public Prosecution Service, and the Court of Justice.

In the past, specific investigations took place in Aruba, but this will take it a bit further, to enhance care and repression when a case is brought forward.

This research aims to help children receive the necessary treatment and judicial help so everything could walk correctly and better investigations to achieve more sentences.

Gomes is happy with the cooperation received from professionals. But if you’ve received an email from the committee, please let them know if you are willing to participate to get an idea if more professionals are needed to participate in the investigation.

If any parents, educators, or professionals are interested in participating, you can contact Lisette Gomes at 5639820, and you will receive an official invitation with all the details.
