Despite COVID-19 vaccine must continue taking precautions

Now that Phizer has announced that the COVID-19 vaccine is about 90% effective, the question is, when will Aruba receive this vaccine.

Roselynn Angela, head of Medicine Inspection, is in charge of all medicine that enters Aruba, including the vaccine. She informed that Aruba, together with The Netherlands, has already made a downpayment towards a vaccine against COVID-19.

Everything depends on when the first vaccine will go on the market, and when The Netherlands will receive it. If all goes well, it should be available in the first six months of 2021.

Angela also explained that people with high risks are the first to be offered the vaccine. For example, people with diabetes, high blood pressure, respiratory problems, etc. She also stated that the vaccine would not be mandatory.

Although a vaccine is being developed, it is still vital to continue washing hands regularly and maintain social distance.  “Just because they are producing a vaccine does not mean that COVID-19 has disappeared.”
