Young Men’s Christian Association, better known as YMCA, is a foundation that works for the community. YMCA was founded in 1956 by Bob Steele who wanted to create an organization where children and teenagers could go to for help and guidance.
During the years, the YMCA has kept adapting itself to meet the needs of society. Nowadays, the YMCA is very well-known in the community, and, especially the cooking lessons have been a great hit. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the YMCA was unable to organize any lessons or activities this year.
However, when everything had to come to a stop, behind the scenes, the YMCA
continued with its plans. One of these was to create a Youth Club, where youngsters from the age of 14 up to 25 could become members and participate in different workshops that would help them develop further for their future. At the same time, taking part in the Youth Club, would give these youngsters the opportunity to do volunteer work and, in this way, continuing the legacy of the YMCA of helping the community. The YMCA Youth Club was officialized on April 24, 2020 and consists of 22 members, including 3 board members.
The circumstances in which we are living now due to the pandemic have limited a lot of things, except the motivation of these youngsters. The YMCA Youth Club is organizing a Car Rally with the purpose of raising funds for Shadiënskah Janzen (better known as Shady), a nine-year- old girl who needs to go to The Netherlands to seek medical treatment. The TeamUp4Shady Car Rally will take place on Sunday, December 20, starting at 10am in front of Massive FM in San Nicolas and will end around 2pm in front of YMCA San Nicolas.
The inscription costs 25 florins per car and you can register either at YMCA Dakota or YMCA San Nicolas.
