Conviction in case of person selling drugs while on welfare

A drug addict who started selling drugs to finance their addiction presented in front of a judge where they were found guilty. The person in question was 63-year old Alexio Th.The Public Prosecutor accused the man of violating the drugs laws and selling of illegal substances between the period of April 30, 2012 and April 30, 2022. During his arrest, 1.6 grams of cocaine and 6 grams of marihuana was found in his possession.

The defendant thus sold drugs during a period of a decade but denies this allegation. He remembers this period as the time he sold fish in Brazil until 2019. With the loss of his brother, who died of a heart attack, he mentally collapsed and turned to drugs in 2020. But due to financial problems, he decided to sell drugs known as ‘piedra’ in exchange for drugs for personal use.

He mentioned that things were not going well for him. In 2021 he became a victim of a robbery as well as an alcoholic. In Court, the man asked for forgiveness from the residents of Brazil for the nuisance he caused while living near another drug addict. “I know that what I did was not right,” he told the judge. In KIA he started talking to a psychologist as he wanted to quit drugs but also admitted to needing help with rehabilitation. “I want to go to Centro Colorado.”

The judge reviewed his dossier and mentioned a statement from one of his clients who, in 2012, mentioned that he bought ‘piedra’ from him. According to Alexio Th., they did not buy it from me. He would get the drugs from his brother and bring it to clients. Thus, it can be said that he was selling on behalf of his brother. “In 2020 I started selling drugs after the death of my brother. I continued in 2021 until my arrest in 2022.
