Chief of Police Detectives Robert Candelaria: We did not rest until we got our hands on the attackers

On the 26th of December 2022, a very unfortunate incident took place on our island which is considered to be a hard blow to our tourism. A group of young adults attacked a tourist, leaving one of them seriously injured. The Canadian tourist, who was only vising our island for a few hours, was brutally attacked by more than one person. They arrived here on the cruise ship and would have never thought that their fun trip would end in such an atrocious manner.

Chief of Police Detectives Robert Candelaria, during his interview with our Headlines Group representative, informed that cases such as these are number one priority. Crime such as these, the police is expected to spring into action right away, which is exactly what happened.

This case was a very important one for the Police Corps, as it involves a tourist as victim. Tourism being the economic pillar of our island, we cannot condone such incidents to become a common occurrence. Therefore, various departments were called to aid in this case in order to figure it out, as quickly as possible and arrest those responsible.

Before long, authorities were knocking on the doors of various homes, figuring out who had been involved. They visited a house in Pos Chikito and detained two people there, a mother and her daughter. According to our sources, the mother remained behind bars for a few hours while they presented proof that the daughter was involved. The daughter then informed the police who else was involved. The investigation was succesful and able to make arrests, in colaboration with various companies that provided their security camera footage. The two other suspects were promptly detained as well.

Candelaria informed that there are possibly more arrests to come and urged those involved to come forward and hand themselves in before the authoraties come knocking on their doors. Aruba will remain the safest island in the Caribbean, says chief Candelaria. They are now working on preventative measures and making sure to install aditional cameras to the area.
