Minister Arends: 3 locations for plastic-waste disposal

Used plastic bottles in recycling bins for earth day campaign

Reducing our plastic use is one of the most important steps for protecting our environment and nature. Why? Because plastic waste has a huge impact and disposing of it properly is one of the most important challenges that our generation is currently facing. By reducing our use and recycling that which we cannot avoid using, we will significantly reduce the amount that ends up in a landfill, and thus end up in nature and in our oceans.

Aruba is surrounded by water and based on scientific data we also have a responsibility to minimize our impact and to try and improve the global situation. The reality is that, while our island does not produce plastic, we do use a lot of it, and a lot of the products used in the Caribbean end up on our shores, just like the plastic we use ends up washing up on other islands’ shores.

I want to do my part: where can I bring my plastic?
Plastic costs money to process, but the positive impact on our nature and environment is priceless! You can dispose of your plastic at the following places:
• Plastic Beach Party (Recycling)
• Ecotech Freezone (Export of sorts)
• AruPro (Reuses its own products exclusively)

By reusing and recycling more, we can reduce the negative impact on our environment. Recycling plastic also takes fewer natural resources compared to producing new plastic. So there is also an economic benefit that should be further explored.
