It was around 1:15 am when we received information of two masked men who were acting suspiciously in Papaya.They were spotted headed in the direction of the Governor’s home, S.E. Alfonso Boekhoudt. Considering his status as the head of the Aruban Government as well as the representative of his Majesty King Willem-Alexander, it was decided to send not just one, but two police patrol units to Papaya.
Upon their arrival, the police did not see anything out of the ordinary. They searched the entire area to no avail. The police consulted CEA personnel, who are in charge of monitoring the governor’s house, and they did not see anything out of the ordinary either.
It was a worried neighbor who alerted the authorities. They were on high alert because the Minister of Finance and Culture, Xiomara Maduro, lives close by as well and could have also been a potential target.
