Tram will be back in Caya Grandi starting on the 10th of July

Tuesday the 4th of July, DOW and Arutram/Arubus N.V. recommended allowing the tram to pass through the city center once again.

This proposition was discussed on the 29th of June during a meeting between DOW and Arubus. During this meeting, they discussed possibilities on what to do with the tram and came to the aforementioned conclusion to create a balance between tram and car traffic in the city center. The proposition includes closing off the road in the middle of “Caya Grandi” for cars on Monday to Friday from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm to allow the tram to pass through. This idea was accepted and will be going into effect on Monday the 10th of July 2023.

Businesses in the city center are also in favor of allowing the tram to pass through once again as it could transport cruise tourists from their ship all the way to the end of the street in front of ‘Djispie’s’. Instead of functioning just as a tour, the tram could also allow the tourists to get down while the tram waits roughly 15 minutes. This suggestion still needs to be evaluated.

Minister Arends believes that a city in which the tram can coexist with other vehicles will improve the general transport to the area for both tourists as well as citizens. This can be a step in the right direction in creating a positive environment within our city center.
