Sixteen people detained for attempting to enter Aruba illegally

During the morning hours, a helicopter could be heard flying low to the ground. It turns out that a group of people attempted to enter Aruba illegally, but they were intercepted.

Sometime during the night, Aruban authorities spotted a suspicious boat navigating our waters near Sero Colorado. The Metal Shark was deployed right away to intercept the boat.

After intercepting the boat, agents found 16 people aboard, 15 of which were Venezuelan men, and one Colombian woman. The boat was taken to the pier in Savaneta, and the people were handed over to the Coast Guard.

The captain and crew were handed over to the Aruba Police Force, who will commence their investigation into the matter.

The ocean has been very calm these days, which is ideal for ships that try to reach Aruba, as it would usually take much longer in rough waters.

It is expected that many more boats will try to reach Aruba within the coming days.
