AHATA: hotels continue focusing on guest quality rather than quantity

Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association (AHATA) compiles the occupancy figures and hotel prices every month, and AHATA’s CEO, Tisa LaSorte, announces that the RevPAR has increased once again because guests are paying a higher price, while the occupancy rates decrease. 

OCTOBER 2023:

Occupancy: The occupancy rate was 74%, which is nearly the same as it was in October of 2022, and 5% lower than the occupancy rate in October 2019.
ADR (Average Daily Rate): The average price per room sold was $285.19, which is an increase of 6% compared to October 2022.
RevPAR: The average revenue per available room was $210.60, representing a 6% increase when compared to 2022 and a 22% when compared to 2019. RevPAR is the key financial indicator before deducting operational expenses and taxes.

JANUARY – OCTOBER 2023:

Occupancy: The average occupancy for the first ten months was 77%, an increase of 5% compared to the same period in 2022. (Please note that tourism in the first quarter of 2022 was heavily affected by COVID-19). The average occupancy during the first ten months of 2023 is 9% less than compared to the same period in 2019. 

ADR: The average price per room sold was $337,64, which is 12% higher than the same period in 2022.

RevPAR: The average revenue per available room for the first ten months was $261,34; 13% more when compared to 2019.

PROJECTION:

The current projection for average hotel occupancy in November is 78%, in December is 79%, and in January is 78%. The expectation for the full year of 2023 is a 73% occupancy rate, which represents a 13% reduction compared to the average in 2019.

TIMESHARE:

Occupancy in timeshare properties was 85% in October 2023.
