Total Import 

The total import, in terms of weight, registered a decrease of 13.6 mln. Kg (-7.9%) in the third quarter of 2023 (159.6 mln. kg) compared to the same period in 2022 (173.2 mln. kg), while, in terms of value, the total import decreased  by Afl. 9.4 mln (-1.4%), from Afl. 671.4 mln. to Afl. 662.0 mln. 

Import to the free circulation area of Aruba* (weight) 

Import to the free circulation area of Aruba, in terms of weight, registered a decrease of 13.7 mln. Kg (-8.0%) in the  

third quarter of 2023 (157.3 mln. kg), compared to the same period in 2022 (171.0 mln. kg). During this period, fourteen (14) of the twenty-one (21) sections registered decreases in terms of weight in import to the free circulation  area of Aruba. The largest decreases are observed for the sections “Mineral products” -9.0 mln. Kg (-9.0%), “Food  

products” -1.7 mln. Kg (-9.2%), and “Live animals and other animal products” -1.3 mln. Kg (-17.5%).  The largest increases are observed for the sections “Transport equipment” 0.9 mln. Kg (39.6%) and “Wood, charcoal  and woodwork” 0.5 mln. Kg (16.1%).  

Import to the free circulation area of Aruba* (value) 

Import to the free circulation area of Aruba, in terms of value, registered a decrease of Afl. 6.5 mln. (-1.0%) in the  third quarter of 2023 (Afl. 631.9 mln.) compared to the same period in 2022 (Afl. 638.5 mln.). During this period, ten (10) of the twenty-one (21) sections registered decreases in terms of value in import to the free circulation area of  Aruba.  

The largest decreases are observed for the sections “Mineral products” Afl. -23.2 mln. (-38.3%) and “Live animals  and other animal products” Afl. -14.4 mln. (-21.6%). 

The largest increases are observed for the sections “Transport equipment” Afl. 19.6 mln. (49.8%) and “Base metals  and derivated works” Afl. 6.5 mln. (22.8%).  

Import to the free Zone of Aruba 

Import to the free Zone of Aruba, in terms of weight, registered an increase of 0.03 mln. kg (1.5%) in the third quarter  of 2023 (2.3 mln. kg) compared to the same period in 2022 (2.2 mln. kg) and was mainly due to an increase of 0.03 mln. kg (374.3%) in the section “Artificial plastic elements”.  

In terms of value, the import to the free Zone of Aruba decreased by Afl. 2.9 mln (-8.7%) from Afl. 33.0 mln. to Afl.  30.1 mln and was mainly due to a decrease of Afl. 3.3 mln. (-10.1%) in the section “Food products”. 

The abovementioned Import (to the free circulation area of Aruba) is the result of Import by Sea and Import by Air,  which had the following developments: 

1. Import to the free circulation area of Aruba* by Sea 

Import by Sea to the free circulation area of Aruba, in terms of weight, registered a decrease of 12.9 mln. kg (-7.6%)  in the third quarter of 2023 (156.5 mln. kg) compared to the same period in 2022 (169.4 mln. kg) and was mainly due  to a decrease of ” 9.0 mln. kg, (-9.0%) in the section “Mineral products”. 

In terms of value, the import by Sea increased by Afl. 2.2 mln. (0.4%) from Afl. 536.6 mln. to Afl. 538..8 mln and was  mainly due to increases of Afl. 19.6 mln. (51.5%) and Afl. 6.5 mln. (24.3%) in the sections “Transport equipment” and  “Base metals and derivated works”, respectively. 

2. Import to the free circulation area of Aruba* by Air 

Import by Air to the free circulation area of Aruba, in terms of weight, decreased by 0.7 mln. kg (-48.3%) from 1.5 mln. kg in the third quarter of 2022 to 0.8 mln. kg in the third quarter of 2023 and was mainly due to decreases of  0.2 mln. kg (-65.5%) and 0.2 mln. kg (68.5%) in the sections “Textile fibers and articles” and “Chemical products”. In terms of value, the import by Air decreased by Afl. 8.7 mln. (-8.5%) from Afl. 101.8 mln. to Afl. 93.1 mln and was  mainly due to decreases of Afl. 2.9 mln. (-16.3%) and Afl. 1.6 mln. (-9.0%) in the sections “Real pearls (natural) and  other precious stones” and “Optical instruments, apparatus and equipment”. 

Import to the free circulation area of Aruba* by Large companies** 

Import by “Large companies”, in terms of weight, decreased by 4.9 mln. kg (-20.8%) from 23.5 mln. kg in the third quarter of 2022 to 18.6 mln. kg in the third quarter of 2023 and was mainly due to a decrease of 22.8 mln. kg (-100%)  in the section “Mineral products”.

The % change is determined by comparing the 3rd quarter of 2022 with the 3rd quarter of 2023.

*Large companies refers to the following companies: Valero, Arugas, Web, Elmar and Setar 

In terms of value, the import by “Large companies” decreased by Afl. 12.8 mln. (-18.1%) from Afl. 70.7 mln. to Afl. 57.9 mln and was mainly due to a decrease of Afl. 23.0 mln. (-44.8%) in the section “Mineral products”. 

Total Export 

The total export, in terms of weight, registered an increase of 0.3 mln. Kg (3.4%) in the third quarter of 2023 (8.1 mln. kg) compared to the same  period of 2022 (7.9 mln. kg), while, in terms of value, the total export increased by Afl. 0.2 mln. (0.5%) from Afl. 48.3 mln. to Afl. 48.5 mln. 

Export from the free circulation area of Aruba* (weight) 

Export from the free circulation area of Aruba, in terms of weight, registered an increase of 0.2 mln. Kg (4.2%) in the third quarter of 2023 (5.9 mln. kg) compared to the same period in 2022 (5.7 mln. kg). Ten (10) of the twenty-one (21) sections, registered increases in terms of weight in  the export from the free circulation area of Aruba. The largest increase is observed for the section “Food products” 0.3 mln. Kg. (43.2%). The largest decrease is observed for the section “Works of stone, gypsum, cement, asbestos” -0.1 mln. kg.(-98.1%). 

Export from the free circulation area of Aruba* (value) 

Export from the free circulation area of Aruba, in terms of value, registered an increase of Afl. 0.8 mln. (4.6%) in the third quarter of 2023 (Afl.  19.4 mln.) compared to the same period in 2022 (Afl. 18.6 mln.). Fourteen (14) of the twenty-one (21) sections, registered increases in terms of  value in the export from the free circulation area of Aruba. The largest increases are observed for the sections “Base metals and derivated works”  Afl. 1.3 mln. (48.1%) and “Real pearls (natural) and other precious stones” Afl. 0.6 mln. (16.5%). 

The largest decreases are observed for the sections “Machinery & electrotechnical equipment (new & renewed)” Afl. -1.9 mln. (-50.6%), “Works  of art, collectors pieces and antiques” Afl. -0.4 mln. (-12.6%) and “Transport equipment” Afl. -0.4 mln. (-33.8%). 

Export from the free Zone of Aruba  Export from the free Zone of Aruba, in terms of weight, registered an increase of 0.03 mln. kg (1.2%) in the third quarter of 2023 (2.23 mln. kg)  compared to the same period in 2022 (2.20 mln. kg) and was mainly due to an increase of 0.03 mln. kg (1.4%) in the section “Food products”. In terms of value, the export from the free Zone of Aruba decreased by Afl. 0.6 mln. (-2.0%) from Afl. 29.7 mln. to Afl. 29.1 mln. and was mainly due to a decrease of Afl. 0.6 mln. (-1.9%) in the section “Food products”.
