Successful police operation with the arrest team

On Saturday night at around 8:40 pm, authorities detained a dangerous group involved in drug trafficking and possibly weapons as well.

With authorization and the presence of the Public Ministry prosecutor along with the Arrest Team, K9 Unit, Narcotics, Flex Team, and uniformed police, several judicial actions and entries were carried out. Among them, they visited the notorious corner of Driemasterstraat and Venezuelastraat. A site known to the police, not only for drug dealing but also for fatal shootings.

Authorities had already set its sights on the person in charge, the one running the show. They arrived with a battalion of heavily armed police officers. They approached them from all corners and ordered everyone to get down. At that moment, innocence or guilt is not discernible; once you frequent that corner, whether to buy drugs or engage in the trade, you are involved. That’s how it goes.

They lined up twelve people against the wall and covered their eyes. Immediately, the K9 unit and other officers started searching for drugs. They searched every nook and cranny in the vicinity as well.

After identifying the suspect they were looking for, they transported him to a separate vehicle for police custody at Shaba. The other detainees remained blindfolded throughout the search.

They even searched nearby cars, one of which was eventually confiscated. After inspection, most of the individuals were released.

The suspect didn’t remain silent for long; he started providing them with names, addresses, cars, and all his alleged associates who also sell drugs nearby.

After his confession, with the prosecutor’s authorization, they visited one of the two addresses. They proceeded to Panamastraat, where they entered with the arrest team and apprehended one of the suspects. They transported him in a police vehicle to the station.

Now, the interrogation process will continue. It was a whole operation that started early in the morning when the special teams met at the Veld di Aruba Juniors and then went out to make their move. You don’t make a move without being sure you’ll find something.

The police have a special observation unit that spends days surveilling a location or a suspect. In civilian cars, they watch; when you come home, when you leave, which car you use, and in a few days, they know your routine, giving the green light to the armed team to intervene.

The arrest team is used when a suspect is considered “dangerous and armed,” fearing they might shoot when the police arrive to arrest them. Everything went according to plan, and in the end, the prosecutor, Yolanda Pronk, went home with a smile on her face, even commenting before getting in the car: “That’s all for today.”
