The Ministry of the Elderly is proud to announce its new Daycare project

Daycare refers to a facility where the elderly can come to spend their day and enjoy a social and active environment. From morning until late afternoon, adults aged 60 and over are welcome to participate in activities, and conversations, or simply relax at the Daycare.

This initiative arose because there is not enough care capacity for the elderly on our island. This results in many elderly individuals and their families facing significant challenges. Physical and mental deterioration, financial difficulties, and psychological stress are some of the impacts we observe in our community due to lack of adequate care.

The Daycare Project will serve as a significant relief to our care system by attending to a large group on the waiting list of SABA and in the future for the elderly who want to remain physically and socially active.

During the second edition of the National Forum for the Elderly, Minister Arends announced that an “Intentieverklaring” (Letter of Intent) was signed with several local stakeholders to make the Daycare Project a reality. SABA, FCCA, Cas Marie, Buurtzorg Caribbean have made space available for the project and are enthusiastic about working together on this. Club Kibrahacha will play a role, as well as Wit Gele Kruis (WGK), which offers medical check-ups.

“A key part of the vision for the Elderly is the principle of de-medicalization, a shift towards a more humane and social approach in our interactions with the elderly and their care. This vision emphasizes the essence of treating the elderly with the dignity and compassion they deserve,” Minister Arends emphasized.
