One day later than expected: Wilhelminastraat will be closed for a month

In the framework of the second phase of the Columbusstraat and Wilhelminastraat Revitalization Project in Oranjestad, it was initially reported that this area would be closed on Wednesday. However, due to the company not being ready to start on Wednesday, the date was postponed by one day.

But on Thursday, Wilhelminastraat at Plaza Brenchie’s was indeed closed, and the works, which will last for thirty days, began. This marks the second phase of the downtown revitalization project.

Initially, the plan was to divert traffic to go south towards Irenastraat and then enter Caya E.J. Harms, then Zoutmanstraat, Zuidstraat, and back into Wilhelminastraat. The only way for traffic to go up the road is to enter Ooststraat, if the driver needs to go to one of the stores on this street.

DOW is asking for cooperation from drivers to please keep the parking lot in front of Paris Restaurant open so that buses and company trucks have space to make their turns.

This plan aims to transform the area in question into the city’s culinary district, thus improving its aesthetics, accessibility, and functionality for both locals and visitors.

The street will be closed for 30 days, so if everything goes as planned, the street will reopen on May 13th.
