Firefighters managed to get the fire that occurred in one of the power production engines at the WEB plant under control very quickly. Due to this incident at the plant, the power situation is unstable, even though the fire has been taken care of.
This is what WEB informed the press fifteen minutes after the alarm was triggered. Within a span of 2.25 minutes, many alarms were heard along the road and soon afterward, black smoke could be seen in the Barcadera area. The report received indicates that a very loud sound was heard in the plant, followed by flames.
The explosion originated from one of the Wartzila reciprocating engines (not new) located right at the front of the plant. Immediately, all relevant authorities were activated. The Police Motor Unit stationed themselves at the Pos Chikito road, near Balashi/Barcadera and Drive-In, to prevent traffic from passing through.
This way, the entire area was protected while firefighters quickly handled the situation. Within fifteen minutes, they reported that the road could be reopened, as the situation was completely under control. The Public Relations Officer confirmed that the fire was in engine 7.
