Cultural sensitivity: a course provided by CEDE, PADF, and the University of Aruba to enhance diversity and inclusion

In a collaborative effort to promote diversity and inclusion in the community, the Center for Development Aruba (CEDE) – BARiO UNICO in collaboration with the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) has launched a series of training sessions focused on diversity and inclusion. This initiative, made possible through the collaboration between CEDE and PADF, aims to train non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and foundations with essential knowledge and skills in the field of diversity and inclusion. Thanks to the financial support of the US Government, this series of training sessions was made possible.

The series of training sessions began on Thursday, April 25, with a focus on ‘Cultural Sensitivity’. A total of 27 participants from 15 different organizations attended the first training session, with the desire to improve their understanding and skills on how to promote a more inclusive organization and community.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Yolanda Richardson and Deborah Alexander for facilitating the first training on diversity and inclusion. The training session began with a reflection on individual acceptance of diversity, followed by discussions on organizational inclusivity and how to adapt existing policies and management to include all clients or employees.

Additionally, we would like to thank the University of Aruba for demonstrating their commitment to advancing inclusive education in Aruba.

Throughout the project, participants will take part in four different training sessions covering a variety of topics such as protection and protection mechanisms, education: education opportunities for migrants and the challenges in this field, and finally, the sessions will conclude with project management monitoring and evaluation.

BARiO UNICO is the organizing team for this series of training sessions, facilitating connections between organizations on the island and facilitators with expertise in their field, promoting an environment of development and collaboration.
