All 180 stranded passengers depart Aruba after aircraft repair

by Nicole

As previously reported, an aircraft that suffered a bird strike to its nose while in Cuba was grounded in Aruba for more than 24 hours, leaving 180 Cuban passengers waiting at the airport. The situation has now been resolved, and all passengers have departed safely for Guyana.

The replacement part needed to repair the aircraft arrived on a cargo plane on Tuesday afternoon. Technicians had removed the damaged section earlier that morning and were able to install the new part once it arrived. The aircraft was cleared to depart later that evening.

During the delay, arrangements were made to accommodate the passengers at the airport. The airline provided meals, while CMO supplied 180 beds for the overnight stay. A Red Cross representative was also present to provide assistance.

The passengers could not leave the airport because Cuban nationals require visas to enter Aruba, and none of them had the necessary documents. As a result, adults and children alike spent the night at the airport while awaiting the completion of the repairs.

At around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the aircraft finally took off with all 180 passengers on board, allowing them to continue their journey to Guyana.
