Aruba unites to support earthquake victims in Venezuela

by Nicole

Aruba’s community has come together in a major show of solidarity to support people affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. Citizens, volunteers, authorities, businesses, and community organizations are joining efforts to collect humanitarian aid and provide support to families facing severe hardship.

Plaza Simón Bolívar became the center of a solidarity event organized by the Viva Venezuela foundation in Aruba. During the gathering, donations of non-perishable food, drinking water, medicine, clothing, and other essential supplies were collected for those affected by the disaster. Authorities stressed the importance of unity in responding to the crisis, noting that thousands of people have been impacted. Many have lost their homes, others have been injured, and countless families are struggling with shortages of food, clean water, and medical care.

Luisa Rincón Peterson, representing Viva Venezuela, thanked authorities, the media, businesses, and the wider community for their support. She explained that the turnout was far greater than what she had anticipated, and that the aid will be sent to the regions in Venezuela with the greatest need.

Additional support is also being organized through Iglesia Odres Nuevo and Fundacion VeneAruba, which have launched a donation campaign from their location in Paradera. Organizers are asking the public to focus on urgently needed emergency supplies, including over-the-counter medicines such as iodine, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, bandages, and gauze, as well as potable water.

There is also a strong need for practical supplies such as shovels, construction gloves, blankets, sheets, and small or inflatable mattresses, which can be more easily transported and distributed to people who have lost their homes. Personal hygiene products, including toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and other cleaning supplies, are also in high demand to help maintain sanitary conditions in affected areas.

Organizers reminded donors to only contribute items that are clean, usable, and in good condition so the aid can directly benefit families in need.

In another gesture of support, SETAR announced free calls from Aruba to Venezuela from June 27 through July 1, 2026. The initiative allows customers to call both landlines and mobile phones at no cost, helping families stay connected with loved ones during this difficult time.

As relief efforts continue, organizations are encouraging everyone in Aruba to keep supporting donation centers and contribute in any way possible to help bring relief to those suffering in Venezuela.
