Organizations from Aruba and Curaçao participated in FRED Expo in Rotterdam, connecting Caribbean professionals living in the Netherlands with employment opportunities and encouraging those considering a return to their home islands.
The event brought together companies, institutions, and professionals to exchange information, build networks, and explore career opportunities in the Caribbean.
Organizer Tristan Every explained that FRED Expo was established in 2012 with his partner, Quincy Santiago. Originally known as Flinx Recruitment Expo Dutch Caribbean, FRED now stands for Future, Entrepreneurship, Recruitment, Dutch Caribbean.
Arubahuis representative Shandra John expressed satisfaction with the interest shown in the event, noting that it provided an opportunity to inform Arubans in the Netherlands about possibilities for returning home.
The Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.) also participated, highlighting employment opportunities in tourism and hospitality. ATA representative Shadey Figaroa explained that the organization shared information about vacancies, recruitment websites, and application procedures to help interested candidates explore career options in Aruba.
Curaçao was represented by the IT4Curaçao Foundation, which connects technology professionals in the Netherlands with those on the island. Foundation president Milangelo Maduro explained that the initiative supports knowledge sharing, coaching, mentorship, and internships, allowing professionals abroad to contribute to Curaçao’s development.
IT4Curaçao also organized a panel discussion on eHealth, bringing together healthcare and technology professionals to explore how technological solutions could address healthcare challenges in the Caribbean.
Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) highlighted career opportunities linked to the ongoing expansion of Queen Beatrix International Airport. AAA representative Zunaica Phillips emphasized that airport employment extends beyond aviation-related positions. The organization also requires professionals in finance, risk and compliance, human resources, mechanical engineering, and information technology.
Phillips encouraged Arubans living in the Netherlands to explore potential job opportunities as the airport’s development projects continue.
FRED Expo aims to strengthen connections between Caribbean talent and employers while promoting professional development and encouraging members of the diaspora to contribute to the future of Aruba and Curaçao.
