Government brings ATV and UTV stakeholders together for first joint meeting

by Nicole

In an effort to address concerns surrounding the use of ATVs and UTVs in Aruba, Minister of Infrastructure René Herdé recently met with all stakeholders at the same table for the first time. The meeting brought together representatives of tour operators, Aruba Birdlife Conservation (ABC), the Department of Nature and the Environment (DNM), and the Aruba Conservation Foundation (ACF) to explore possible solutions.

Interestingly, all parties were accompanied by legal counsel. Six lawyers were present among the 12 participants, highlighting the importance each side places on ensuring that the discussions are conducted carefully and that no statements or decisions are misrepresented.

The meeting focused on dialogue and the exchange of views, with the aim of exploring ways to balance tourism and recreational activities with the need to protect Aruba’s natural environment.

According to the parties, the discussions took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere. Each side had the opportunity to share its perspective, while acknowledging the importance of finding a balance between economic activities and environmental conservation.

Further meetings are expected to continue the dialogue, exchange ideas and work toward a common understanding before a final decision is made.
