Police carried out an extensive traffic operation combined with preventive patrols on Friday, setting up checkpoints at several strategic locations. Officers inspected more than 400 vehicles and issued 95 fines.
The violations included driving without a valid driver’s license, failing to pay vehicle registration tax, and not having valid vehicle insurance or a vehicle inspection certificate.
During the operation, police arrested two people who did not have valid residency permits. Two drivers were also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while another person was arrested for marijuana possession.
During separate preventive patrols, officers found a knuckle duster, also known as brass knuckles, inside a vehicle. The driver was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon. Police continued their checks in several neighborhoods and at nightlife establishments into the early morning hours.
The operation also led to an arrest for possession of ammunition. Officers additionally confiscated a machete, scissors, and various quantities of drugs.
Police said traffic checks and preventive operations will continue on Saturday night during Halloween in several districts. Motorists are reminded to ensure that their driver’s licenses and all vehicle documents are valid. Anyone planning to drink alcohol should not drive and should arrange for a designated driver.
