Students get an inside look at Aruba’s timeshare industry

by Nicole

A group of local vocational secondary school students between the ages of 13 and 19 spent the morning of September 29 learning about Aruba’s timeshare industry during the “The World of Vacation Ownership” program at La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino.

The program was developed for students studying hospitality and vocational education. It gives them an inside look at the timeshare industry and introduces them to the career opportunities available in the sector.

The program has three main goals: to showcase the variety of careers in the timeshare industry, encourage students to take an interest in vocational and practical education, and promote a mindset in which both young people and the industry benefit. The idea is for students to see not only what they can contribute to the industry, but also what the industry can offer them.

The program’s name reflects its approach, giving students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of timeshare. They received an introduction to the industry, met young professionals, explored real career opportunities, worked on challenges and gained a first impression of the professional environment.

As in previous years, the event took place in the gala hall of La Cabana Beach Resort from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students were welcomed with refreshments and an icebreaker activity. ATSA President Sulaika Kelly and the resort’s Assistant General Manager, Lillian Britten, then welcomed the group.

After completing a group puzzle, the students took part in a career-related scavenger hunt that introduced them to four key roles in the industry. During the Vacation Ownership Challenge Lab, the students worked in teams to create a new design for the Islander Grill restaurant.

The program concluded with feedback and suggestions, followed by a group photo, refreshments, DJ music, gift bags and a 360-degree photo booth.

Understanding the hospitality industry, particularly the timeshare sector, is becoming increasingly important for students in vocational secondary education.

Timeshare is an important part of Aruba’s tourism industry and provides employment opportunities in areas such as sales, marketing, resort operations and management.

Kelly thanked all the partners and participants who contributed to the success of the event and helped develop a program that is expected to continue in the coming years.

Special thanks went to La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino, Aruba Center for Leadership Development Foundation, Conoce and DJ Eli. Arubiano supported the event by providing reusable bags for the gifts, while Flashback Aruba provided the 360-degree photo booth.
